A person died Tuesday morning after being hit by a train in the trackway at El Cerrito Plaza BART station. The collision happened at about 8:30 a.m., according to BART spokesman Christopher Philippi.

On Wednesday, a Contra Costa deputy coroner identified the person as Nils Strindberg, 42, whose last known address was in Sacramento. His next of kin, who do not live in El Cerrito, were notified. Mr. Strindberg had no apparent connection to El Cerrito, the deputy coroner said.

On Tuesday, BART police said there were no indications of foul play and it appeared the person entered the trackway willingly. The person was declared dead at the scene.

The El Cerrito Plaza BART station was closed for about three hours. A half-dozen emergency vehicles, including fire engines from Kensington and Richmond, were parked alongside the station. Part of a BART train was halted on the track. Personnel in safety green vests were on the platform.
